April 8, 2013. The End for Windows Live Messenger

Microsoft has pick the date for the death of their instant messenger platform, the Windows Live Messenger. After April 8, 2013, nobody can use this service, and the desktop version of the software will be replaced with Skype, the popular Voice over IP service that they have acquired at 8.5 billion USD back in October 2011.

According to Microsoft, the Windows Live Messenger users can transfer their Hotmail and Outlook.com contacts by signing in to Skype with their current Windows Live Messenger ID.

Hopefully Yahoo don't do the same move with their Yahoo Messenger service.
