What is Android One, What is the Difference with Common Android OS?

Recently several local smartphone manufacturers launched their affordable smartphone with Google's Android One operating system. Namely Evercoss One X, Mito Impact, or Nexian Journey.

What exactly is Android One? Why it can make smartphones become more affordable?

Android One is a new OS standard created by Google. It is designed for the first smartphone users, especially from the developing countries such as India, Philippines, and Indonesia.

How come it can help to make the handset even cheaper?

First, the Android One OS is very close to stock Android, without many bloated and useless apps developed by the smartphone maker that can drag down the device performance. So, it is a light weight OS.

Second, since it is a light weight OS, the smartphone manufacturers does not required to make high spec device. Low spec device can run the OS smoothly. This is why the price of Android One device lower than the common Android.

Third, the smartphone manufacturers are only required to produce the phone. All of the update, most of all, the security update will be provided by Google. This can lower the operational cost on the smartphone manufacturer's side.

The most important thing, Android One still provides the basic apps for smartphone and most important Google's App such as Chrome, Gmail, Search, Translate, Maps, etc. Play Store also available if the user required to add more apps.

So, is it worthed?

Personally, I think it is worthed for every penny.
I prefer Android One OS rather than using customized OS. Root? Maybe not necessary if I got an Android One device.
