How Much Facebook Pay to Buy WhatsApp? WhatsNext?
It's October 6th, 2014. After receiving approval from US authority, last April, Facebook finally buy WhatsApp for 19 billion USD or about IDR 228 trillion. Now, 600 millions of WhatsApp users belongs to the biggest social media company.
The move sparked concern among telecom operators. Earlier this year, WhatsApp said that they are planning to offer Internet call service. Whereas, instant messaging services already consumed telco operator's revenue from SMS.
Facebook already have Internet calling services between their users, utilizing Internet connection via WiFi or cellular network.
If phone calls or messaging service are no longer a business for telco operators, in the future, maybe they will be just another ISP. CMIIW.
