Xiaomi (Hongmi) Redmi 1S vs Asus ZenFone 4S (A450CG)

For those of you who wants to choose between the two of the most populer budget smartphone to date, here is a little comparison:

 

From the design perspective, honestly I prefer Zenfone 4S. Looks more premium for a cheap smartphone, right? But how about the other specs? Let's see below's table: (data provided by GSM Arena and other sources)

Network Support: Zenfone 4S
Zenfone 4S supports all GSM network. It means you can go anywhere in the world and you'll be guaranteed that you can use this handset to communicate.

Dimension/Weight: Zenfone 4S
Even though a little bit thicker, Zenfone 4S is slightly smaller and lightweight so it is easier to carry.

Display Size: Redmi 1S
Redmi 1S display size is 0.2" bigger. For today's world, bigger screen size most of the time is better than smaller.

Display Resolution: Redmi 1S
With HD resolution it provide, Redmi 1S is much better than FWVGA resolution that Zenfone 4S offers

Display Protection: Zenfone 4S
Zenfone 4S uses Corning Gorilla Glass 3 that more superior than Corning Gorilla Glass 2 used by Redmi 1S

External Memory Support: Zenfone 4S 
Zenfone 4S supports up to 64GB of microSD, Redmi 1S only up to 32GB

Both of them have 8MP main camera on the back, but for the front camera, Redmi 1S provides 1,6MP camera while Zenfone 4S only VGA

OS: Zenfone 4S
Zenfone 4S has Android KitKat out of the box, while Redmi 1S is still with Jelly Bean.

CPU: Redmi 1S
Redmi 1S uses Snapdragon 400 which is a quad core processor running at 1,6GHz and have 1MB L2 cache while Zenfone 4S uses Atom Z2520 dual core with hyperthreading but runs only at 1,2GHz and have 512KB L2 cache.

GPU: Zenfone 4S
Zenfone 4S's PowerVR SGX544MP2 have 8/4 cores that run at 300-533MHz while Redmi 1S's Adreno 305 have 6 cores that run at 450MHz. Yes, SGX544MP2 is older technology, but it already supports DirectX10.1 and Shader 4.1 while Adreno 305 only DirectX 9.0c. Other than that, PowerVR SGX544MP2 has dedicated memory while Adreno 305 used share memory with the main RAM.

Battery: Redmi 1S
For battery, Redmi 1S provides bigger capacity with 250mAh difference.

Price: Redmi 1S
At a normal price, Redmi 1S sold at IDR 1.5 million while Zenfone 4S slightly higher at IDR 1.599 million

After Sales Service: Zenfone 4S
Xiaomi cooperate with their partners to provide services to the end user. For now, Xiaomi provides 17 service centers in 15 cities in Java, Kalimantan, and Sumatera while Asus have dozens of their own service centers and service partners in all over the country.

IMO, Zenfone 4S is slightly a better option than the Redmi 1S.
